Island of Vis

The island of Vis has a typical Adriatic-type of Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, humid winters. Perfect for relaxing on its secluded beaches, diving in the transparent blue sea, or exploring its mediaeval cities.

Vis is the most distant of the bigger islands in the Middle-Dalmatian group and is 45km from the mainland. The 8km wide Vis channel divides it from the island of Hvar. The length of the island's coast is approximately 77km. In the summer, Vis is connected to Hvar, Split and Ancona by regular ferry lines.

Sandy island soil is the best for wine-growing, therefore the Vis vineyards are among best in Dalmatia. Around 20% of arable land on the island is covered with vineyards. The second trade on the island is fishing due to the rich submarine fauna.

Accompanied by professional and experienced diving instructors one can see sunken boats, dive among red and yellow gorgoneia, get to know Blue and other caves, discover the secrets of ancient wrecks. In the Vis sea basin there are six sunken ships from different historic periods, from ancient times to World War II.

On Vis you will find an unpolluted environment with the crystal clear sea and marine scenery as well as local specialities - seafood from the cleanest part of the Adriatic, and local wines. Music and other events are organized during the summer season.

Vis offers a lot of wild untouched beauty, especially on its southern coasts where the cliffs have been carved by the winds and waves of the open sea.

There is lots to do on Vis including sailing, diving and paragliding.
